Stillness for Performance Art: Developing a Visual Lexicon with Tamar Ettun
How do we enter and exit stillness? What does it mean to be still with another person? Where do we go when we fall?
Our prompt for this project came after a 3-week exploration into the concept of stillness. We meditated, moved, listened, and debated as a class. In this 8 minute piece, I choreographed 3 friends in various human sculptures, asking them to hold the shape until they no longer physically could, and then, allowing themselves to fall. In this intimate workshop space, the 4 of us asked ourselves: how can we hold shapes together? How can we hold them weirder and more intimately? This video serves as a documentation of our process.
